How do I clean my canopy?
You do not need to clean your canopy, unless you have a big stain that bother you. In this case, spread out your canopy on a flat, clean and dry surface.
Do not use solvent or abrasive products. If necessary, we recommend you wash the stained surface with a gentle soap and a soft sponge.
Please avoid the washing machine !!
How do I remove a marking made with adhesive fabric?
If the marking is temporary, we recommend, before putting it on the canopy, to stick it on a fluffy fabric (as cotton). In this way, the glue will be less efficient and it will be easier to remove it.
To remove a permanent marking, you will have to do it with caution, if necessary with some water. Please avoid any solvent which could damage the coating.
The rest of the glue on the canopy can be removed with some water. On white fabrics, you can sprinkle the remaining glue with talcum powder. The glue and talcum powder will eventually disappear.
What could get my canopy older prematurely?
The main ageing factors are:
- abrasion
- heat
- light and UV
- humidity / water
The combination of the last three factors can be disastrous.
Some advices : avoid any exposure to Ultra Violet light.
Do not drag your canopy or walk on it.
Do not leave your glider in the boot of a car in strong sunlight.
Are some colors getting older sooner than others?
Today, the whole color range of Porcher Sport is developed to last. You can find some indexes on this web site. It is graduated on a scale from 0 to 8 where 0 corresponds to a total bleaching of the fabric and 8 to no degradation. The length of the lab test represents a normal exposure of the canopy through its life. Generally, fluorescent colors are always more sensitive. Finally, the degradation of a color is not synonymous with a lack of performance of the fabric.
What is the importance of the porosity on the flying performances?
We know today that porosity is far from being the most important parameter for flying. However, it remains one of the easiest test to do without damaging your glider. Thus, the obtained values give an idea of the general shape of the fabric and more particularly of the coating. Without being crucial for the canopy, porosity is an efficient test to determine the ageing of the material.
